The canal’s authentic locks, integral to its rich history and heritage, are an attraction for many boating enthusiasts. The Kinda Canal features 15 manually operated locks that have remained unchanged for almost 150 years, offering a unique experience for visitors.

Enjoy the unique locks of Kinda Canal

The canal’s locks are a unique and pivotal feature of the Kinda Canal experience. Each lock possesses its character and charm; some are within walking distance from central Linköping, while others are nestled in picturesque rural settings or close to Northern Europe’s largest contiguous oak forest. Visitors can access all nine lock areas of the canal, which encompass 15 hand-operated locks, using public transportation.

Nykvarns Lock, the first or last lock on the Kinda Canal, depending on the direction of travel, is an excellent example of the canal’s historic locks. The lock has a height difference of 2.8 meters and connects Lake Roxen/Göta Canal with the Kinda Canal. Visitors can relish a delightful park on Nykvarnsholmen, located next to the lock, for a stroll or to sit on the grass with a cup of coffee.
